NEW DELHI, India: As part of counter-terrorism efforts, India and the US on Thursday agreed to enhance cooperation between law enforcement agencies of the two countries in tackling cyber crimes.
A joint US-India statement released after talks between President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stresses that in view of the importance of cyber security and cyber forensic research, the two countries are also carrying out discussions on a draft protocol on cyber security.
It has been agreed that the law enforcement agencies - Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Department of Information Technology and US National Cyber Security Division - would share expertise in analysis of trace viruses, software worms and network traffic analysis.
In 2001, the two countries had set up an India-US cyber security forum as part of a counter-terrorism dialogue. The agreement on Thursday is a step towards intensifying the bilateral cooperation to control cyber crimes.
The statement envisages greater interaction between the defence services of the two nations through sharing of experiences in organisational, technological and procedural aspects.
