BANGALORE, India: A 13-year-old schoolgirl was shocked when she saw a website in her name with obscene and abusive information about her. The 8th standard girl had to undergo this trauma for spurning the proposal of a man, who was once a close family friend.
The girl Janet (name changed) is living with her mother and two brothers in Frazer Town. The family got close to their neighbour Prince John, who was at a paying guest accommodation. They treated him like a family member.
An unsuspecting kid, Janet, was friendly with John and had taken photographs with him. She refused when John proposed to her. Later, John approached Janet’s mother and placed a marriage proposal, which the mother rejected saying her daughter was too young to get married.
Angered by their refusal, John threatened he would defame Janet by using her photos. A call centre employee, he was well-versed with the internet. A few days later, he sent a message to the mobile phone of a family member. It read: “Hi Prince here. Visit the web ... Trust the true story. Rush to cafe now. Be the first visitor. The uncovered story and pics - enjoy...”
When the family checked the website, they were shocked. John had opened a website with an offensive title in the name of the girl and put up obscene and abusive information with her details. He had linked it to pornographic sites. He concocted stories and wrote vulgar information.
Shocked by this, the family members panicked and sought the help of the Cyber Crime Police to control the damage and catch the culprit. The website was blocked, but the efforts of the police to nab the culprit have not yielded any results.
