Encryption is the buzz word around data security! Various techniques are used for encryption of data for ensuring confidentiality of information.
Encryption means alteration of message in such a manner that the encrypted message is of no significance to any other person except the designated recipient, who can decrypt it back to the original message.
Encryption techniques alter the original message to non useful data which can be decrypted only by the person who possess the decryption logic. The encryption and decryption logic used are very complex which cannot be easily cracked.
An easy example for understanding the concept of encryption is:

The original message is –
“He is a good person”.

The encryption logic used is:
i) +1 for all odd alphabets
ii) -1 for all even alphabets
iii) # is used for replacing blank space character

Thus, the encrypted message would be –
“Id#jr#b#fpne#ofqtno”.

This output encrypted message is transmitted via internet and does not make sense even if snooped by anyone.

The desired recipient runs it through the decryption algorithm to get the original message.

Message received is – “Id#jr#b#fpne#ofqtno”.
Decryption logic used is:
i) -1 for all odd alphabets
ii) +1 for all even alphabets
iii) blank space character is used for replacing # character

Output message after running through the decryption logic is:
“He is a good person”.

The encryption-decryption logic explained here is just a representation, the actual encryption-decryption algorithm used are complex and quite difficult to crack.

Various techniques devised by technological advancement to curb cyber crimes and address security concerns are
1. Encryption
2. Cryptography
3. SSL(Secured Socket Layer)
